Who We Are
The mission of L'Œuvre des Samaritains is to help low-income people by giving them access to a food distribution center.
The goal of the organization is also to offer listening, encouragement and direct people to other resources and services in the neighborhood that could help them.
Our food supports: Families with children. People who have a job, but whose salary is not enough to cover expenses. People who receive social assistance or unemployment. People with reduced mobility. The elders. Students. Single parents.

What We Do
Food Distribution: In 2020-2021, we received 14313 visits, once registered the participants, assisted by a volunteer, receive a basket of food. The food distribution of the Work of the Samaritans took place in the form of a community grocery store since its beginnings. To deal with the pandemic situation, we had to disrupt our distribution procedure to respond adequately to the health rules established by public health.
This service is offered three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The food offered by L'Œuvre des Samaritains is sorted, cleaned and packaged if necessary, in order to offer quality and well-presented food.
L'Oeuvre des Samaritans cooked meals which were distributed every week. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, this activity had to be stopped and was replaced by a distribution of free emergency baskets for the most needy families. In all, 860 baskets were donated thanks to the financial support received from anonymous donors.
Prevent Food Waste: Since 2007, the organization has been concerned about the environment because we inspect and transform each perishable product that Misson Montreal sends us. We are therefore committed to offering more products suitable for consumption.
Christmas Grocery: The holiday grocery store is an opportunity to distribute foods that we normally do not distribute. During this period, the organization receives donations from agri-food companies and buys fish, shrimp, ham, chicken, dairy products and a wider variety of non-perishable food. Participants must register in October for this special grocery store taking place the 2 weeks preceding the Christmas party. As for the regular distribution, the participants choose their food themselves. In 2021, 860 families benefited from Christmas groceries and their regular groceries.
