Who We Are

FareStart has been helping people transform their lives through food for nearly 30 years — one person, one job and one community at a time. People experiencing poverty struggle to escape the cycle they are in and often face other compounding barriers to getting and keeping a job. FareStart helps people overcome barriers by teaching work and life skills needed to succeed in employment and in life. By investing in people, providing meals and building community, it transforms homelessness, hunger and poverty into human potential.

What We Do

FareStart transforms lives, disrupts poverty and nourishes communities through food, life skills and job training through the following programs:

  • Food Security: FareStart expanded beyond our usual business and meal production in response to the hunger emergency that accompanied the COVID-19 crisis. Since 1992, it has prepared over 14.6 million meals for schools, healthcare centers, shelters, Head Start programs, and daycare centers.
  • Job Training: FareStart helps people with barriers to employment get the skills they need for a real career. It helps people who have experienced poverty, addiction, homelessness or a criminal records.
  • Consulting: FareStart is leading a movement to help organizations fighting joblessness, poverty and hunger across North America. Its consultants provide training, resources, technical assistance, and support to nonprofits that share a commitment to reducing poverty and hunger through food-based job training social enterprises.
