Who We Are
Founded in 1985 by 13 individuals with the belief that no one should go hungry, the Food Bank of South Jersey’s mission has expanded to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to people in need, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives.

What We Do
The Food Bank of South Jersey's programs fall under four broad categories:
Feeding Children: When it comes to health and development, children who do not get enough to eat are immediately at a disadvantage. The FBSJ provides four ambitious programs too help kids: afterschool meals and snacks, weekend meals, school food pantries, and a summer meal program.
Feeding Seniors: Thousands of seniors in South Jersey face difficult choices between eating and paying for heating or healthcare. The FBSJ's Senior Program provides nutritious supplemental food boxes for low-income seniors living in public housing. These packages contain approximately a two-week supply of groceries based on seniors’ nutrition needs.
Feeding Families: Through its core Feed More program, in 2019 1.5M meals were rescued from going to waste and instead were distributed to 200 emergency feeding programs, serving 137,000 people. Additionally, the FBSJ's mobile pantry carries truckloads of food to “food deserts” in an 18-wheel tractor trailer holding 45,000 lbs. of food.
Health and Wellness: The FBSJ works to ensure that its neighbors in South Jersey have the tools they need to lead sustainably healthy lives through a range of nutrition-education options.
